It is with great concern that I write in connection with the fly-by-night chicken ’n’ chips stands that are popping up all over. I am very disturbed by the ones all over the Diego Martin area. Some operate under the most unsanitary conditions and people purchase at their own risk.

People are complaining about a shortage of foreign exchange. It would ease my mind a great deal if someone in authority could explain what happened to all the tourism dollars generated by our recent Carnival. Some of the people can fool themselves all the time, unfortunately.

I read that, according to a media release from Friends of Cricket, it is rumoured that legal costs incurred by the T&T Cricket Board (TTCB) in its failed bid to stop the regional four-day final between the CCC and Jamaica were $300,000. Whatever the actual cost, this is money wasted and this...

The Minister of the People and Social Development, Dr Glenn Ramadharsingh, is sending wrong signals to the people of T&T and setting a dangerous precedent. Is he saying that in order to get married there must be a wedding?

Given that once again it is taxpayers’ money that will be paying the new coach of the national football team, can the Minister of Sports, Anil Roberts, in the interest of transparency, let us know what this coach is going to cost us this time around?

The only “unrest” in T&T, as alluded to by former Prime Minister Patrick Manning, will be as a consequence of political incitement by politicians. From all indications it appears as though the former Prime Minister has recaptured his voice and is seeking a platform on which to create an...

The assault on workers is now complete! Using its full might, and with the whole-hearted support of the business sector, the State has placed the entire society in danger.

Every time there is a road accident with multiple deaths, all manner of people propose measures to “reduce the carnage on the roads.” Sometimes I wonder if they seriously think about the issue and what really causes vehicular accidents and what, if anything, can be done to prevent them. Before...

It takes about 10 years or more and an incredible amount of ability in Science subjects to become a specialist medical practitioner...in addition to which the cost to qualify is enormous...and the responsibility to ensure that patients don't expire on the operating table is a grave one.

West Indies cricket is at a juncture where its experienced players have approached the end of their tenure. A new crop of players no doubt will be dominating the team. And this is where we would be recycling the same old policy.

I write as Minister of Planning because I was awarded the honour by the PM of opening the first debate of this session in the Senate on the State of the Economy.

In a recent sitting of Parliament, Point Fortin MP Paula Gopee-Scoon reportedly criticised the Prime Minister’s recent trip to Washington to attend an Organisation of American States (OAS) meeting, saying that no other leader attended except Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar. The Prime...

Why does it have to take so long to get things done in T&T? The Dangerous Dogs Bill was passed in both Houses of Parliament in June 2000. Why, after more than a decade, it still has not been proclaimed as law?

The human brain is a many splendid thing. From birth it works so well through adolescence and higher education until you get into government and then it stops working.
