The chairman of the Board of Inland Revenue says, “In this new system if you owe five cents then (sic) we know.” This is reminiscent of the old adage, “penny wise and pound foolish.” While the board is focusing on the five cents the millions, and billions, are getting away.

It is notable that the Prime Minister has taken a cultural contingent to London to celebrate Commonwealth Week and accompanying her is the Minister of Arts and Multiculturalism. It is a paradox that the minister is not accompanied by a multicultural contingent.

Now that the invasion of the Carnival jumbie in the barbaric bacchanalia in its boisterous celebration is over and the feteing and yelling, the crude licentious wining and stomping have come to an end, once more, we are faced with the morose reality of life.

For far too long drivers of “P” vehicles five years old and over have flouted the inspection law and failed to have their vehicles Inspected.

The police are reluctant to enforce the law because of long delays and time consumed in court.

Today our national dish of shark and bake is now imported Guyan-ese cat fish and bake. Shark populations have been decimated. Other countries are responding, and so too can we. FFOS calls on the Government to take a position on this national crisis which can be reversed.

For four years Amery Brown never said boo to a goose far less to his maximum leader who wasted the country’s oil boom riches on useless projects, leaving the Treasury empty. Now we hear Amery whining about “wasteful investments” by the Government in Carnival bands.

Hot on the heels of International Women’s Day and on reports in our media recently that a National Commission on the Status of Women is to be established in T&T, I was saddened to note that the 10 people appointed to date (including the chairman) to the National Commission for Higher...

I am deeply concerned about the State’s snail-paced approach to improving maternal and child healthcare. As an old retired midwife, I am appalled to see deaths of mothers and children on a daily basis.

I am a resident of Trincity, Tacarigua, for the past 28 years and our community has been traumatised, flabbergasted, outraged and discombobulated by the wanton sexual attack on an innocent 12-year-old girl from our residential area at the hands of a callous, inhumane monster.

I heard Cro Cro’s controversial calypso for the first time at the Calypso Monarch finals on Dimanche Gras night and I was greatly appalled by what I heard.  It was a distasteful and disgraceful attack on some of T&T’s most distinguished African sons, simply because they...
