Champagne On Deck chases after hattrick

The Mani­ram Ma­haraj-trained Cham­pagne On Deck will go for a quick hat­trick of vic­to­ries on Sat­ur­day, when he goes to post for the fea­ture Stakes & Low­er Hand­i­cap over 1,600 me­tres on the Turf at San­ta Rosa Park, Ari­ma.

How­ev­er, Luis Ro­driguez who is booked to ride Cham­pagne On Deck has al­so been booked to part­ner the cham­pi­on turf horse of 2008, Funky Like Ah Train for train­er Har­ri­ram Gob­in.

But Funky LikeAh Train will on­ly race on the turf and with rain ex­pect­ed, the race could be shift­ed from the grass sur­face. Oth­ers in the line up for the $42,000 first prize cheque in­clude Saint Pe­ga­sus which ran a big race be­hind Rag­ing Ha­lo ear­li­er in the sea­son.

The pow­er­ful Glenn Mendez Sta­bles will be rep­re­sent­ed by Wind­jam­mer which was a win­ner last time out. When en­tries were tak­en yes­ter­day for the sev­en-card a to­tal of 87 hors­es took en­try for the Ari­ma Race Clubs (ARC) Day 26 pro­gramme. Post time for the first event is 1.10 pm.
