Tobago United and Police will hope to put aside their poor form in the Digicel Pro League to book a spot in the qualifying round of the First Citizens Cup competition. Today, Tobago, second from bottom on the 11-team table and cellar-spot Police will meet at the Dwight Yorke Stadium, Bacolet from 6 pm.
At stake for the winner will be a meeting with Defence Force in one of two qualifying round matches on September 11. The other qualifying match will see St Ann's Rangers and FC South End squaring off. So far this season, Tobago and Police have met three times, with the boys from the sister-isle winning on two occasions to the lawmen's lone win.
Included in the two wins for the Tobagonians is a 5-3 penalty-kicks triumph after a 0-0 draw in the qualifying round of the Lucozade Sport Goal Shield Tournament earlier this year, however, Police will no doubt have vengeance on its mind, setting the stage for an interesting clash.
The top six teams in the league at the end of round day match day nine were all guaranteed quarterfinal spots. These clubs include current table leaders bmobile Joe Public, Caledonia AIA of Morvant/Laventille, Ma Pau, Clico San Juan Jabloteh and last year's tournament winner, W Connection.
