To­ba­go Unit­ed and Po­lice will hope to put aside their poor form in the Dig­i­cel Pro League to book a spot in the qual­i­fy­ing round of the First Cit­i­zens Cup com­pe­ti­tion. To­day, To­ba­go, sec­ond from bot­tom on the 11-team ta­ble and cel­lar-spot Po­lice will meet at the Dwight Yorke Sta­di­um, Ba­co­let from 6 pm.

At stake for the win­ner will be a meet­ing with De­fence Force in one of two qual­i­fy­ing round match­es on Sep­tem­ber 11. The oth­er qual­i­fy­ing match will see St Ann's Rangers and FC South End squar­ing off. So far this sea­son, To­ba­go and Po­lice have met three times, with the boys from the sis­ter-isle win­ning on two oc­ca­sions to the law­men's lone win.

In­clud­ed in the two wins for the To­bag­o­ni­ans is a 5-3 penal­ty-kicks tri­umph af­ter a 0-0 draw in the qual­i­fy­ing round of the Lu­cozade Sport Goal Shield Tour­na­ment ear­li­er this year, how­ev­er, Po­lice will no doubt have vengeance on its mind, set­ting the stage for an in­ter­est­ing clash.

The top six teams in the league at the end of round day match day nine were all guar­an­teed quar­ter­fi­nal spots. These clubs in­clude cur­rent ta­ble lead­ers bmo­bile Joe Pub­lic, Cale­do­nia AIA of Mor­vant/Laven­tille, Ma Pau, Cli­co San Juan Jabloteh and last year's tour­na­ment win­ner, W Con­nec­tion.
