Teens battered to death in Tobago

by

Two teenagers have been battered to death in Tobago. Reports are that the bodies of two young men were discovered in the French Fort, Scarborough area. One of the two has been identified as 16-year-old Kolen Salandy, of Patience Hill, Tobago. Up to late last night police were unable to identify the body of the other teen, who is believed to be 15. Salandy is said to be a relative of Jeffrey Mc Farlane of the National Insurance Board. Both bodies were battered and bore marks of violence to the neck and throat, and both were found with their underpants and trousers pulled down to their knees, a release from the Ministry of National Security stated.

Salandy's body was discovered by members of a religious group who had gone to the area to pray. The other body was, however, discovered by the police while they were carrying out investigations into Salandy's death. Police reports revealed that Salandy attended a party at the Esplanade in Scarborough and was last seen getting into a car to go home. Upon realising that he had not returned home, his parents filed a report at the Scarborough Police Station this morning. Police say that Salandy had recently completed his CXC exams and was about to start UWI A' Level classes. The two teens were pronounced dead by District Medical Officer Dr Mentor Melville. Autopsies are expected to be carried out on the bodies on Tuesday.

Tobago police believe both victims may have been killed by the same perpetrator/s. Specialist Crime Scene Investigators (CSI) from the Special Anti-Crime Unit of Trinidad and Tobago are expected to assist in the investigations. No arrests have yet been made. This is the second serious crime to hit Tobago in recent times. Seven weeks ago, on August 1, British couple Peter and Murium Greene were brutally chopped about their heads at their Bacolet home. The Greenes have since recovered and returned to the United Kingdom.
