Fresh off its win in the First Citizens Cup final on Friday over bmobile Joe Public, Defence Force will now focus its attention on the Digicel Pro League "Bix Six" competition which kicks off today. Currently, Joe Public heads the table with 41 points from its 20-match regular season schedule followed by Caledonia (40 points), Clico San Juan Jabloteh (39 points), W Connection and Ma Pau, both with 34 and Defence Force, a further two points behind.
The "Big Six" competition carries an individual prize while the points won will also be added to the league regular season points to determine the overall league champion. Before a packed house at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Macoya, the "Teteron Boys" edged Joe Public 1-0 in the First Citizens final before and will be confident when they battle two-time defending league champions, Jabloteh at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva from 5pm. Jabloteh also won the "Big Six" last year.
The "Teteron Boys" were the last team to sneak into the "Big Six" competition after beating Tobago United 3-1 on the final day of the regular season while Jabloteh is coming off a 5-1 drubbing at the hands of DC United in the Concacaf Champions League on Wednesday in Washington and is expected to be low on morale.
In the other two matches on today, 2007 "Big Six" winner W Connection, also beaten in Concacaf Champions League play on Wednesday, 2-1 away to Mexico's Pumas UNAM and Caledonia AIA of Morvant/Laventille face off in the second match at Couva while Ma Pau and league leaders, bmobile Joe Public face off at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Macoya.
