T&T bodybuilding team placed second overall at the 37th Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Bodybuilding Championships, which concluded on Saturday in St George's, Grenada. T&T regained the premier place in the female bodybuilding class, spearheaded by a tremendous performance from Candace Carr-Archer. Carr-Archer was first in the Women's Masters Bodybuilding Class from a field of eight competitors. She continued her dominance of the championship by adding the Women's over 55kg weight class from five other contestants. She then went on to win the overall female bodybuilding category making her the second Trinidadian female bodybuilding athlete to attain her IFBB Professional Card (the first being Neila Murray which she achieved in 1992).
Carr-Archer continued T&T's female success at the championships by being the second female athlete in recent times to achieve her Professional Card, since Candace John in 2006 in the Body Fitness category. T&T's second place finish was based on the tremendous performance of its twelve athletes, in comparison to the first place team from Barbados which comprised 20 athletes. The top three national teams were Barbados, T&T and the Bahamas. Nineteen countries took part in the championships, which had 133 entries.
Other notable T&T performances came from Michelle Alleyne, who placed second in the Body Fitness up to 158 cm height category, Tamara Riberio Bailey, who placed second in the Body Fitness up to 163 cm height category, and Monisa Harbans-Aleong, who placed third in the Body Fitness up to 168 cm height category.
