BRIDGETOWN–Bar­ba­dos' dom­i­nance in Caribbean vol­ley­ball con­tin­ued to slip, when both ti­tles in the fi­nal round of the Siz­zlin' Sands Beach Vol­ley­ball com­pe­ti­tion end­ed up in oth­er hands. Mark Lewis and Dan­ny Wil­son of Ja­maica won the men's ti­tle, and the Trinidad & To­ba­go pair of Nan­cy Joseph and El­ki Philip won the women's ti­tle in the third leg of the com­pe­ti­tion host­ed at Bran­dons Beach here.

For Lewis and Wil­son, their vic­to­ry fol­lowed a sec­ond-place fin­ish in the fi­nal leg of the NORCE­CA Beach Vol­ley­ball Cir­cuit in Nicaragua. The Ja­maicans de­feat­ed the Bar­ba­di­an pair of El­wyn Ox­ley and Gre­go­ry Gill 21-15, 17-21, 15-6 in a thrilling con­test. As a re­sult, they have al­ready qual­i­fied for the Cen­tral Amer­i­can & Caribbean Games, as well as the next Pan Am Games.

Af­ter fin­ish­ing run­ners-up in the pre­vi­ous two years, Joseph and Philip, the three-time T&T na­tion­al cham­pi­on, over­came com­pa­tri­ots Nadiege Hon­ore and Ayan­na Dyette in straight sets, 21-16, 21-18.

It turned out to be a com­plete T&T sweep for the medals as An­drea Davis and na­tion­al in­door cap­tain Kel­ly Billingy pre­vailed over Bar­ba­di­ans Sharon Bovell and Mona Craw­ford in the bronze medal match. (CMC)
