T&T senior team hockey players, England-based Kwandwane Browne, Nicole Aming and Stacey Siu Butt were named on the Pan American Hockey Federation Elite Teams for 2009. The PAHF Elite Teams are named every two years, with the first ones announced after the 2007 Pan American Games, where Browne was one of three national men's team players selected on the team. Browne, who was voted as the 2007 Pan American Games "Player of the Tournament", was joined on that Elite Team by national teammates Dwain Quan Chan and Wayne Legerton, after the trio helped T&T to a fourth place finish.
However, this time around, national captain Browne, who was the leading goalscorer at the eight-team tournament in Chile with 11 goals which helped T&T to a fifth place finish, was the lone "Calypso Stickman" in the team. The men's Pan American Elite Team 2009 is led by Pan American Cup "Player of Tournament" Rob Short of Canada. The Pan American Cup winner, Canada is represented by four other players in captain Ken Pereira, defenders Scott Tupper and Paul Wetlaufer and "Goalkeeper of the Tournament", David Carter.
Pan American Cup runners-up, USA has four picks on the men's team which is represented by six countries–Argentina (three), Canada (five), Chile (three), Mexico (two), T&T (1) and USA (four). Aming of Defence Force and Siu Butt of Magnolias were selected to the Women's Pan American Elite Team 2009 which is led once again by three-time World Hockey Player of the Year Luciana Aymar of Argentina. Aymar is joined by five more players from Argentina, winner of the Pan American Cup played in Bermuda, in "Player of the Tournament" Carla Rebecchi, top scorer Noel Barrionuevo, Carla Dupuy, Rosario Luchetti and goalkeeper Maria Belen Succi.
In Bermuda, T&T was edged by Chile 2-1 in the third placed match.
Tournament runners-up USA is represented by five players, Canada (one), Chile (three), Mexico (one), T&T (two) and USA (five). Jamaica and Bermuda women's team also participated in Bermuda and placed seventh and eight respectively. The teams were selected by hockey specialists involved or present at the 2009 Pan American Cups in Chile and Bermuda while additional input was sought from persons present at the FIH events in which PAHF teams participated (such as the Women's Champions Trophy in Sydney and the Junior World Cups).
