United National Congress (UNC) political leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar remains undecided about either wearing a sling for the next couple of months or operating on her fractured left shoulder to recuperate from her recent injuries. "Well, I am consulting with my doctor and I have not made a decision on that," she told the T&T Guardian yesterday. She admitted that she remained in extreme pain and was taking painkillers. She has not allowed the pain to deter her from returning to work and was preparing for a meeting with the executive of the Public Services Association (PSA) at 3 pm today at the PSA headquarters, for continued discussion on the Trinidad and Tobago Revenue Authority Bill. Persad-Bissessar's doctor has offered her two options to heal her fractured left shoulder: either let the wound heal on its own or install screws. She sustained the fracture last Friday after tripping in the Parliament chamber and crashing to the ground.
Her injuries did not hinder her from attending Saturday night's UNC People's Party at Rienzi Complex in Couva. "Though in some pain, her indomitable will perseveres," UNC chairman Jack Warner said in an e-mail. "No fall can stop our collective determination to bring resolve to the plunge of an entire Republic. The work continues unabated." During a telephone interview with the T&T Guardian yesterday, Warner also sought to clear up misconceptions that he was blanked from addressing attendees of the UNC People's Party. He said: "Mrs Persad-Bissesar came late. We were supposed to begin at eight and continue to nine in the night. But because of her health, she arrived at nine-something, so we cut the programme."
