Sev­er­al fam­i­lies on Eligon Av­enue, Diego Mar­tin, had their Moth­er's Day lunch de­layed for sev­er­al hours yes­ter­day, as the road was cor­doned off by the po­lice, and res­i­dents were un­able to ac­cess their homes. Around 1.20 pm, res­i­dents re­port­ed hear­ing three loud ex­plo­sions from a shop at the cor­ner of Eligon Av­enue and the Diego Mar­tin Main Road. In­ves­ti­ga­tions re­vealed that ten-year-old Cur­tis Smith, was seen bleed­ing with a sin­gle gun­shot wound to one of his arms, and 22-year-old An­drew Thomas was ly­ing on the ground, al­so with gun­shot wounds.

Smith was tak­en to Port-of-Spain Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal where he was re­port­ed to be in a sta­ble con­di­tion.

Thomas, how­ev­er, died at the scene of the shoot­ing. He lived with his moth­er, Lau­rel John, and broth­er at Ramjohn Trace, Diego Mar­tin. Of­fi­cers of the West End Po­lice Sta­tion and SAUTT vis­it­ed the scene, but could not give a mo­tive for the shoot­ing.
