Several families on Eligon Avenue, Diego Martin, had their Mother's Day lunch delayed for several hours yesterday, as the road was cordoned off by the police, and residents were unable to access their homes. Around 1.20 pm, residents reported hearing three loud explosions from a shop at the corner of Eligon Avenue and the Diego Martin Main Road. Investigations revealed that ten-year-old Curtis Smith, was seen bleeding with a single gunshot wound to one of his arms, and 22-year-old Andrew Thomas was lying on the ground, also with gunshot wounds.
Smith was taken to Port-of-Spain General Hospital where he was reported to be in a stable condition.
Thomas, however, died at the scene of the shooting. He lived with his mother, Laurel John, and brother at Ramjohn Trace, Diego Martin. Officers of the West End Police Station and SAUTT visited the scene, but could not give a motive for the shooting.
