An of­fi­cial at the Elec­tions and Bound­aries Com­mis­sion says re­counts have been re­quest­ed at Ari­ma, Diego Mar­tin North East and Point Fortin. She al­so said the of­fi­cial re­sults would be re­leased be­fore Fri­day. It Ari­ma, the PNM's Lau­rel Leza­ma-Lee Sing lost to Roger Samuel. COP is re­quest­ing a re­count in Diego Mar­tin North East, where Garvin Nicholas lost to for­mer Min­is­ter of Works Colm Im­bert. UNC's Nyahu­ma Obi­ka is re­quest­ing a re­count, hav­ing lost to PNM's Paula Gopee-Scoon. The EBC of­fi­cial said: "The EBC will have to give them the op­por­tu­ni­ty if they want a re­count. They may want a cou­ple of box­es or a gen­er­al re­count. But it should be ready be­fore Fri­day."

Mean­while, she said while the re­count was on, it would not pre­vent the Pres­i­dent George Maxwell Richards from ap­point­ing the first fe­male Prime Min­is­ter of T&T Kam­la Per­sad-Bisses­sar. She will al­so be able to ap­point her Cab­i­net. The of­fi­cial re­sults were made avail­able to Richards by 3 pm yes­ter­day. Kam­la Per­sad-Bisses­sar cre­at­ed his­to­ry as she is ex­pect­ed to be sworn in to­day as T&T's first fe­male Prime Min­is­ter. The UNC-led coali­tion won a land­slide vic­to­ry–29 seats to the PNM's 12. Ef­forts to con­tact Leza­ma-Lee Sing proved fu­tile.
