Denise Francis became T&T's first woman medallist at the Junior Pan American Cycling Championships in Mexico on Thursday night after pedalling to a bronze medal in the Women's Keirin. Francis, who advanced to the final along with team-mate Jodi Goodridge, finished third in the event behind Canada's Florence Laplante-Laarche and Mexico's Frany Maria Fong, who won gold and silver respectively. Goodridge, T&T's second cyclist in the event, finished a creditable fourth in the six cyclist field. On Tuesday, Goodridge and Francis placed fifth and seventh respectively in the Women's Sprints.
T&T's Quincy Alexander was also in impressive form late on Thursday as he picked up a silver medal in the Men's Flying 200m, his second medal at the Championships. Alexander squared up against Argentina's Mauricio Quiroga, who had earlier in the day set a new Championship record of 10.33 to qualify for the final with the fastest time overall, for the gold medal and lost two of three races in the final.
Kwesi Browne, who was racing for the bronze medal in the event, also lost his final ride with Venezuela's Duque Willis getting the better of him. Alexander claimed his other medal on Monday in the Men's Kilometre Time Trial. He clocked an impressive 1:04.246 seconds during his lap around the Centro Nacional De Desarillo De Talentos y de Alto Rendinento. Argentina picked up the gold in the event after Quiroga clocked 1.03.382 with Venezuela's Willis Duque picking up bronze after he achieved a time of 1.04.731.
