Rejected by the United National Congress to contest the upcoming local elections former Alderman Rajendra Gosine has resigned from the party.
Gosine, who served as an alderman in the Couva Tabaquite/Talparo Regional Corporation (CTTRC) for the past four years, said it was a most painful decision but he had lost confidence in the leadership of the party which he has served for more than 20 years. He submitted his letter of resignation to the UNC general secretary, dated July 5, Nomination Day. Gosine, of Dow Village, California, said his resignation was with immediate effect.
He said the decision was painful but after serious deliberations and consideration of the dilemma, which confronts both himself and the party, he had no choice. Gosine noted: "Over the last couple of days, I have lost tremendous confidence in the leadership of the UNC and its screening committee with regards to the local government election 2010."
He said he had served the UNC, which joined with the COP, NJAC, TOP and MSJ, to form the People's Partnership Government, in various capacities over the past 20 years. In spite of his long service, Gosine said he did not feel his dedication and service was acknowledged because he was not selected to contest the California/Point Lisas seat for the UNC. Gosine felt he was the best candidate to bring the seat home.
