Debutant Derone Davis capped off a fine all-round performance to bowl T&T to first innings lead against defending champions Jamaica, on the second day of Round One in the TCL Group West Indies Under-19 Cricket Challenge, yesterday at Gros Islet in St Lucia. Davis, a former West Indies Under-15 left-arm spinner who scored 44 on Thursday in T&T's total of 250, bagged four wickets for 36 runs to help dismiss the title-holding Jamaicans for 209. Lending support to Davis was pint-sized right-arm leg-spinner Kissoondath Magram who grabbed two for 57. Batting a second time T&T closed on 39 without loss to establish an important 80-run-lead with all their wickets intact. Teshawn Castro (18) and Nicholas Alexis (17) are the not out batsmen.
Earlier, the Jamaicans resumed on their bedtime position of 37 for none and pushed on to 146 for two before Davis ran through the middle and lower-order batting. Leading scorers were Pete Salmon with 55 which included five fours and one six off 174 balls and Paul Palmer with 43 from 66 deliveries which contained six fours. At Beausejour Cricket Ground, Windward Islands, trailing Barbados by 58 runs on first innings, reached 72 for three at the close. Matches end today.
