Kennya Cordner and Tasha St Louis scored a goal each that helped guide the T&T Senior Women's football team to a 2-1 victory over its U-17 counterparts at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Macoya yesterday. The match was a friendly between the two national sides, which are preparing for the Fifa U-17s tournament which takes place from September 5-25 and the and Women's Gold Cup in October respectively. The U-17s drew first blood in as early as the second minute through a brilliant through ball by right winger, Kayla Taylor, who found Nykosi Simmons just in front the far left post.
Simmons easily nudged the ball inside the net, beating senior team keeper, Kimika Forbes, who could do nothing to save it. Three minutes later, Cordner, who would later miss many similar opportunities in the match, was offered a shot by skipper Maylee Attin-Johnson, who picked the forward out just inside the box, but Cordner alone with, with U-17 keeper, Linfah Jones, was unable to find the back of the net. In the 18th minute, Taylor, almost got her name on the scorecard, blasting a low hard shot from the top of the 18 yard box, but she found keeper, Kimika Forbes, who made a comfortable save. Eight minutes later, Cordner, got the equaliser for her side, after Attin-Johnson, thread her way through the opposition defence, but her shot hit the bar.
The rebound however, found Cordner, who made no mistake, and headed the ball over the head of Jones to earn herself a much deserved goal. Cordner, almost had another, in the 43rd, but she was denied by Jones, who made a great save, diving to her left. Five minutes into the second half, St Louis scored the winner for the seniors, collecting the ball inside the far left of the box, and blasting it into the opposite corner. Coach, Even Pellerud is expected to announce his final team for the Fifa-U-17 Women's World Cup today.
