Bmobile Joe Public put their Concacaf Champions League horror behind, and avenged their Lucozade Sport Goal Shield quarterfinal defeat against the DIRECTV North East Stars, with a 2-0 win in their quarterfinal clash of the 2010 First Citizens Cup at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Saturday night.
First half goals by Gayson Gregory and Kerry Baptiste helped the "Eastern Lions" turn the tables on the Lucozade Sport Goal Shield winners. The Macoya based unit went ahead in the 36th minute, when Antiguan striker Gregory met an Andre Toussaint right side cross to head past goalkeeper Michael Woods for a 1-0 advantage.
Then with a minute to go in the half, the Lions were given an early Christmas present by Stars. Woods pulled down Makan Hislop in the box, and a penalty was awarded. Skipper Kerry Baptiste then made no mistake from the spot, to give Public a 2-0 lead at the half. While both teams had chances in the second period, none were converted and at the final whistle, the Lions walked away with the win. Meanwhile the other encounter between San Juan Jabloteh and Ma Pau was not played as both teams turned up with the same colour kits.
