T&T top field athlete Cleopatra Borel-Browne claimed her first Commonwealth silver medal in the Women's shot put finals at the 19th edition of the games at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Delhi, India, yesterday. On day six of competition, the national record holder tossed the "iron ball' a distance of 19.03 metres in her first attempt, to take second behind New Zealand's Valarie Adams, who captured her second successive Commonwealth gold medal. It was also Adams' first effort during the event which produced her golden throw, a record performance of 20.47 metres. Four years ago in Melbourne, Australia, Borel-Brown, the 2010 CAC Games champion, was third to Adams whose other efforts at her third Commonwealth Games produced distances of 18.91, 18.70,18.65 and 18.46m. Tasele Margaret Satupai of Samoa placed third, with an effort of 16.43m.
Borel-Brown's silver improved T&T's tally to four medals, two silver and two bronze. Roger Daniel and Rodney Allen opened T&T's campaign on Tuesday with a bronze in the men's pair 50m pistol event. Aaron Armstrong sped to another bronze in the men's 100m two days later and Ayanna Alexander leaped to silver in the women's triple jump on Friday. T&T's all-time best is nine medals (five gold, two, silver and two bronze) which was achieved in 1966 in Kingston, Jamaica. The four medals won so far has increased the country's Commonwealth medal haul, which now stands at 42. Rhonda Watkins looks set to add to that total after she booked her spot for the women's long jump finals as the top qualifier. In the qualification round yesterday, the 2006 World Junior champion leaped to 6.56 metres and was the only athlete to surpass the 6.50 metres standard.

Callendar will start in lane nine in his attempt to book a place in the finals. He clocked 20.90 seconds in the second quarterfinal yesterday. Earlier in the day, the 2008 CAC Champion was also third in the heats in 21.16 seconds. Roger Daniel and Rodney Allen will be seeking their second medal when they contest the finals of the men's Singles 25 metres centre fire finals.
Yesterday, the duo finished tenth in the pairs event with 1118 points. The men's hockey team slumped to their four straight loss at the Games.
