St Vin­cent and the Grenadines failed to over­come Bar­ba­dos and lost the op­por­tu­ni­ty to top Group B by the slight­est of mar­gins af­ter a three-way split for the top spot brought the all im­por­tant CFU/Con­ca­caf tie break­er rule in­to play for the first time in the Dig­i­cel Caribbean Cup his­to­ry.

In what was a tight goal­less game at Vic­to­ria Park that con­tro­ver­sial­ly end­ed with both sides be­ing re­duced to nine men each, St Vin­cent lived to fight again as they qual­i­fy to the next round of the Caribbean's biggest foot­ball tour­na­ment.

Be­cause of the nil-all draw, Bar­ba­dos would be go­ing home and out of this year's tour­na­ment. De­spite the fact that none of the big three of St Vin­cent, Bar­ba­dos, or St Kitts could beat each oth­er, it was down to the CFU/ Con­ca­caf tie-break­er reg­u­la­tions to de­ter­mine qual­i­fi­ca­tion.

The three teams were lev­el on to­tal points, lev­el on points on the games against each oth­er, lev­el on goal dif­fer­ence in games played against each oth­er, but fi­nal­ly dif­fer­en­ti­at­ed on the fourth cir­cum­stance where St Kitts scored more than the oth­er two in the games be­tween each tied team.

St Vin­cent then came sec­ond in the Group by the fifth lev­el of tie break­er when they scored more goals in the com­pe­ti­tion in its en­tire­ty.Know­ing Cay­man fin­ished sec­ond in Group A on four points, it is guar­an­teed that St Vin­cent qual­i­fy as one of the top two sides from Groups A, B or C.

St Kitts and Nevis beat Montser­rat 4-0 led by a pair of goals from Alex­is Sad­dler to top Group B of the Sec­ond Round Dig­i­cel Caribbean Cup qual­i­fiers at Vic­to­ria Park.Sad­dler net­ted in the 17th and 31st min­utes while Kei­th Gumbs (20th) and Ian Lake (90th) al­so scored for St Kitts/Nevis to end with five points, the same as host St Vin­cent and The Grenadines and Bar­ba­dos which drew 0-0 in the sec­ond match.

Group C qual­i­fy­ing ac­tion be­gins to­mor­row un­til Sun­day with Guyana, Suri­name, Nether­lands An­tilles and St Lu­cia com­pet­ing in Suri­name while the oth­er first round group D, in­volv­ing host Do­mini­can Re­pub­lic, British Vir­gin Is­lands and Dom­i­ca al­so kicks off to­mor­row in San­to Domin­go.
