Fatima College continued its dominance of schools' swimming when it won the Beacon Secondary Schools' Swimming Championship at the Centre of Excellence Pool, Macoya on Sunday.The meet, hosted by the Tidal Wave Aquatics swim club, saw the boys from the Mucurapo based school combine to set four new meet records.
Fatima's first record on the day came from Shane Corbie in the 13-14 Boys' 25 metres backstroke in the non-competitive division when he clocked 14.97 seconds to erase the old mark of 15.31 seconds.
National swimmer Jabari Baptiste, competing in the 12 and Under Boy's competitive category swam to Fatima's second record, in the 50m breaststroke in 34.21 to lower the old record of 34.33.
Baptiste later combined with fellow national swimmers Dylan Carter, Joshua Romany, and Blaine Sobrian to set new records in the 14 and Under Boys' 200m medley and 200m freestyle relays. They were the only two new relay records of the day.Five other swimmers established new individual meet records including the national trio of Caryle Blondell, Kadeja Phillip and Cherelle Thompson.
Blondell sat a new record in the Boys' 15 and Over 50m freestyle and 50m backstroke competitive events; Phillip in the Girls' 15&Over 50m butterfly competitive and Thompson in the girls' 15&Over 50m freestyle competitive.The other record breakers were Jonathan Owen of Trinity College East in the Boys' 25m backstroke and 25m butterfly non-competitive events and Marika Mendez of St Joseph's Convent, Port- of-Spain in the Girls' 25m backstroke non-competitive.
