Two-time reigning Digicel T&T Pro League champions Central FC will have a chance to regain top spot on the table when it faces Defence Force in a re-scheduled encounter at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva, from 6pm today.
The clash was originally carded as a feature part of a double-header at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo, on Tuesday January 10.
However, due to power failure with the lighting system at the venue only the first match, which W Connection won 3-1 over Club Sando was completed.
In fact, The W Connection and Club Sando match had two minutes left to play in regulation time when the lights went, but instead of playing the rest of the time on another date, coach Angus Eve decided to concede defeat.
Since then, W Connection has won three further matches to extend its league winning streak to six as its sits atop the standings with 40 points from 16 matches, two ahead of bitter rival nd second-positioned Central FC, which plays it match in hand against the "Teteron Men" today.
Central FC, dubbed the "Couva Sharks," will also be a fresh bunch for tonight's encounter after it was awarded a default win over the late arriving (30 minutes) Pt Fortin Civic for their schedule clash at Larry Gomes Stadium, Malabar, on Saturday while Defence Force was blanked 2-0 by Ma Pau Stars at Couva on Friday.
When Central FC and Defence Force met in the first round, the "Couva Sharks" devoured their opponents 4-1, and tonight coach Dale Saunders will be keen for a similar result to get back in pole position with two rounds of matches left to decide the league title after today.
To conclude the season, Central FC will tackle St Ann's Rangers and third placed San Juan Jabloteh, while W Connection faces Jabloteh, and Ma Pau Stars.
Another keen battle is also on for the "Golden Boot" award which is currently led by recent senior national team debutant Akeem Roach of Club Sando with ten goals after a brace in a 4-2 defeat of Police FC on Sunday.
Hot on his heels though are former Pro League two-time "Golden Boot" winner, Devorn Jorsling of Defence Force, W Connection's Jamal Charles and Ma Pau Stars' Jerrel Britto, all with nine.
