Cops hold 5, seize drugs, cash in Tobago

To­ba­go po­lice have ar­rest­ed five peo­ple and re­cov­ered a large quan­ti­ty of a nar­cotics and cash in the Ply­mouth area, fol­low­ing an all-day ex­er­cise last Fri­day.

The ex­er­cise was con­duct­ed from 4 am to 3 pm in the vil­lage of Ply­mouth, which was locked down and hous­es and ve­hi­cles searched.

A 66-year-old man was ar­rest­ed for the pos­ses­sion of nar­cotics; a fe­male labour­er, 37, was ar­rest­ed and charged for the pos­ses­sion of mar­i­jua­na and a fish­er­man and un­em­ployed 26-year-old woman were ar­rest­ed and joint­ly charged for pos­ses­sion of mar­i­jua­na and co­caine with a to­tal street val­ue of $650,000.

Over $120,000 in TT cur­ren­cy and over $2000 US cur­ren­cy were al­so seized. Sources said the mon­ey was buried in the back of a house.

The ex­er­cise was co-or­di­nat­ed by ACP To­ba­go Garfield Moore and Snr Supt Joanne Archie, spear­head­ed by ASP Ster­ling Roberts and in­clud­ed of­fi­cers from all po­lice sta­tions in To­ba­go, as well as the Scar­bor­ough CID, Crim­i­nal Gang and In­tel­li­gence Unit, K9Unit, Or­gan­ised Crime Nar­cotics and Firearm Bu­reau and the Trinidad and To­ba­go Reg­i­ment.

Those charged are sched­uled to ap­pear in court to­day.
