Former European-based T&T World Cup striker Jason Scotland was among the goals as Ma Pau Stars blanked struggling Morvant Caledonia United 2-0 at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Malabar on Sunday.
Scotland who previously plied his trade in the Scottish and English Premier Leagues opened the scoring in the 25th while Morvant Caledonia also concede an own-goal in the 38th minute.
In the second-half, Morvant United showed vast improvement and had a shout for a penalty, but it was waived off by referee Gyasi Mc Donald, who also denied Stars, a chance from 12 metres as well, with another no-call .
With the win, Ma Pau improved to 28 points, one behind third-placed San Juan Jabloteh, ahead of their final league game of the season against second-positioned W Connection (43 points) next weekend, while Jabloteh are against league leaders and two-time defending champions Central FC (44 points) in their final game.
The Dale Saunders-coached Central FC, champions for the past two seasons is hoping to become the first club in Pro League history to secure three straight league crowns.
So far, the quartet of Defence Force, Jabloteh, W Connection and Central FC have all won the titles two straight seasons, with W Connection and Jabloteh doing it more than once.
The "Savonetta Boys" as W Connection are known have won the five times (2000, 2001, 2005, 2011-2012, 2013-14) while Jabloteh was victorious four times (2002, 2003/20004, 2007, 2008 and Defence Force made it back-to-back titles in 2010/2011 and 2012/2013 while the "Teteron Men" also won in 1999.
