T&T sprinter Zakiya Denoon and her relay team of Monroe College placed 16th overall in the girls 4x100 metres clocking 46.95 seconds, to advance to the College final at the 122nd Penn Relays in Pennsylvania, Philadelphia yesterday.
Their time was not good enough to get them into the championship final as only the top nine teams qualify but they will be happy to be competing in the consolation final for the next top nine teams. The finals will come off today.
St Francois Girls team of Thyla Maree Scott, Kadesha Prescott, Jeminise Parris and Jeneil Morris will also get that opportunity as they placed 13th in 48.68 to be among the second best group of fastest finishers in the large high school girls 4x100m category. The top eight advanced to the final while the other eight will compete in an additional race today.
The other local school team competing in that race, Bishop's Anstey Port-of Spain which included J'Da Bullen, Akilah Lewis, Jeunice Maxime and Deleth Charles placed 23rd in 49.10.
In the small high school 4x100 division, both Scarborough Secondary and Bishop's Scarborough did place among the top teams.
Atasha Hopkins, Safiya John, Jahmailia Edwards and Ayla Stanisclaus, who made up the Scarborough team placed 52nd in 50.77 and Bishop's Nkoni Waldron, Jamellia Potts, Shanika Belfon and Anya Akili finished 67th in 51.15 in an event which saw 370 schools participate.
