Calypso Rose to get artist award in Spain

T&T's first fe­male Ca­lyp­so Monarch, Ca­lyp­so Rose, will be pre­sent­ed with the WOM­EX 16 Artist Award in recog­ni­tion of her out­stand­ing artistry and her valu­able con­tri­bu­tion to the arts sec­tor in­ter­na­tion­al­ly at the 22nd edi­tion of WOM­EX in San­ti­a­go de Com­postela, Gali­cia, Spain, from Oc­to­ber 19 to 23, in Spain.

Ca­lyp­so Rose, Mc­Cartha Lin­da Sandy-Lewis, 76, be­gan her il­lus­tri­ous ca­reer at a time when men dom­i­nat­ed the ca­lyp­so are­na.Her ca­reer spans over 50 years. To­day she is known as the Ca­lyp­so Queen of the World.At WOM­EX 16, Ca­lyp­so Rose will per­form live as the clos­ing act of the en­tire event.

She will be ac­com­pa­nied on stage with the Ca­lyp­so band Kobo Town whose leader is Drew Gon­salves, a Trinida­di­an re­sid­ing in Cana­da.

Wom­ex is an in­ter­na­tion­al net­work­ing plat­form for the world mu­sic in­dus­try. The an­nu­al five-day event com­pris­es a bustling trade fair, show­case fes­ti­val, con­fer­ence and film pro­gramme, as well as fes­tive open­ing and award cer­e­monies.
