It took 24 penalties to stop St Agnes Anglican School of St James, from writing themselves into the history books Wednesday, when the Port of Spain and Environs Education District Atlantic Football League finals were contested at Fatima College ground in Mucurapo.
St Agnes Anglican was attempting to become the first team to win all the categories in the Atlantic Football competition but faltered in the boys Under-15 final.
Earlier in morning with some 400 cheering fans and supporters, the St James champion took the lead in the U-12 boys final in the 11th minute when Jelani Cox blasted the ball past Ethan Hong in the Dunross citadel. Last year's champion Dunross Preparatory fought back grimly and never gave up coming close to equalising on three occasions but the strike of Cox proved to be golden.
In the second match of the triple-header, St Agnes were again in winner's row as their girls won the U-15 girls title for the sixth time in seven years. The first half strike by Mariah Williams in the ninth minute was the winner.
With two wins under its belt, St Agnes went into the final game against Carenage Boys Government School confident of victory but found themselves trailing 2-0 at the interval. Hakim Farray and Kelon Edwards were the markmen for the eight-time Port-of-Spain champions.
However in the second session, St Agnes came alive and hit back with two goals from Dante Goddard and Jelani Cox. This forced the match into extra time and that did little to change the result. It took 24 penalties to give the Lance Mottley-led school the Atlantic U-15 Boys trophy as his team won 9-8.
School Supervisor I, Carl Thomas meet the players before the matches along with Abeyola Akowe and Kelvin Nancoo.
