The University of T&T's (UTT) tour of England started on a rough note when they went down to Oxford University by 227 runs at Oxford Park on Thursday.Oxford University won toss and decided to bat and after the loss of two early wickets, they rebounded nicely through J Gnoddle, T Claughon and M Winter. Gnodde scored a century batting at number three, while Claughon got 64 and Winter scored 49, as Oxford University tallied 274 all out off their 50 overs.
The best of the bowlers for UTT was A Sankar who grabbed 4/51 off his 10-over allotment. UTT in reply could not handle the moving ball in bitter English conditions and folded for just 64 off 32 overs. K Ramlal top scored with 16 runs, while K Charles made 15. O Jones with 2/14, S Mylavarapu 2/7 and J O'Gorman 2/16, proved too much for the T&T boys.
UTT under the guidance of former Test player Daren Ganga is making a tour of the UK in order to expose the young players to foreign conditions, as part of their development.There are a number of other matches planned over their 10-day stay in England.
