After a high-sea chase off Gaspar Grande, off Chaguaramas on Monday, the Coast Guard seized two crocus bags of marijuana with an estimated street value of $.28 million and arrested three men aboard a pirogue.
A press release from the Coast Guard today stated that around 2 pm three occupants aboard a pirogue were spotted the Coast Guard and sped off. The Coast Guard interceptor crew gave chase and noticed that something was thrown overboard from the pirogue.
The Coast?Guard intercepted the pirogue at 13 nautical miles south of Point Baleine (off Gaspar Grande).
Two crocus bags were recovered from the water and brought to Staubles Bay. Upon searching the bags, the Coast Guard crew discovered in each, twenty packs of plant like substance, weighing 20.8 kilogrammes with an estimated street value of $280,800.
The illegal packages and men were handed over to Customs and Excise Unit and Organised Crime Narcotics and Firearms Bureau, for further processing.
