At least two Parliamentarians appear to take the lessons of caring for the environment seriously; Mr Fazal Karim of the UNC and Mr Darryl Smith of the PNM were photographed removing posters and other promotional material from lamp posts and other public places.
The Prime Minister should ensure that all his candidates mobilise their campaign teams not to motorcade and further impose on the rights of the population to peaceful enjoyment of property, but to remove these offensive advertisements from the public space. The Leader of the Opposition has an equal responsibility.
In the absence of a response from the political parties, the relevant Ministry should complete the exercise itself and charge the respective parties for each item removed. The political leaders of the country have a responsibility to set the right example, otherwise they compromise their moral authority.
