I am sorry to say but the country does not appear to be too impressed with the performance of Finance Minister Larry Howai as his track record in public office has not been of the standard necessary to instil the confidence so desperately needed at this critical time.
The reality of politics is that when you offer yourself for service, you are open to public scrutiny. It seems to me that the whole matter gives the appearance that Mr Howai is "ducking" and that both the Government and the Speaker are blocking the debate, but why?The country knows that the MP for Chaguanas West came to challenge Minister Howai and it seems that he is now left to do so by "bussing Mark."
Dr Rowley is calling for House Speaker Wade Mark to recuse himself from the upcoming parliamentary delegation to Cuba and Australia. Mr Mark's response to this call will signal to the population just how committed he is to country, and taking responsibility for his actions in perverting the debate of no-confidence in Minister Howai.
The public has had questions surrounding how and why Minister Howai was appointed from day one when he received his $10 million package from the bank prior to taking public office in the People's Partnership government. It is the view of some that recruiting from the private sector is a strategy to get better results.
My request is that Minister Howai presents himself to the Parliament and the public unobstructed to allow the citizens of this country to be at peace with our democratic process and constitution. We would like to hear the full debate and we expect a free and fair discourse in the interest of this country's confidence in our system of governance.
