As a resident of a residential area I would like to express my solidarity with the residents of Gulf View in their bid to stop a Carnival fete which would seriously impinge on their right to enjoy their property. The fete promoter is using a private residence for a money-making venture and in my humble opinion is stepping out of bounds in that a residence in an area like Gulf View should not be used in such a manner particularly if it inconveniences other residents.
I have nothing against Carnival fetes and I myself have enjoyed going to a few. However I am of the strong view that such events should not be allowed to deprive people of their basic rights.I pay a heavy price to live in a residential area. Apart from a hefty mortgage payment every month I am gouged by every landscaper, plumber, electrician and handyman whose eyes sparkle with dollar bills at the mere mention of the area where I live.
Apart from the noise these fetes generate, there are the issues of indiscriminate parking, littering, elimination of human waste, fighting and defacement of property which residents have to endure.I think every citizen who cherishes peace and quiet in their homes should support the Gulf View residents because, make no mistake about it, one day soon a big fete is coming to a place near you.
