In spite of its name, Party Done for the Freak Next Door is the kind of production every actor and producer dreams of. Every component of good theatre is catered for and realised in this black comedy. It is entertaining, educational, dramatic, inspirational and most of all comical; a once in a lifetime production.
Raymond Choo Kong, pioneer of comedy theatre in T&T, director of the multiple Cacique Award winning Mary Could Dance, believes that Trinidadian audiences have always had a discerning eye for excellence in entertainment.
"RCKP (Raymond Choo Kong Productions) intentions for the last 30-odd years has been quality, quality, quality," said the celebrated thespian and director." His focus on continuous training has always been foremost in his process.
Party Done for the Freak Next Door will be staged at Queen's Hall, St Ann's from February 26 to March 1.
The play is about a Trinidad situation of a family in crisis. Comedy, as any good Trinidadian knows, can be found in all aspects of our lives and even in the most unlike of scenarios.
When someone loses his wife and finds out that his son is gay on the same day–we laugh (Norman is that You; 1999), someone gets "horn" and physically abused–we laugh (Diary of a Bad Red Woman; 2014); we even laugh at funerals (Death at a Funeral; 2010.)
Party Done for the Freak Next Door features two of Trinidad's top actors– Cecilia Salazar and Choo Kong–seasoned practitioners with a total of 26 Cacique Awards between them.
