Former champion Detour Shak Attack warmed up for tonight's crucial match-up against Caledonia Clippers with a hard-fought 72-68 win over the Ministry of Sports Schoolaz in the Men's Division of the Mackeson Super 10 Basketball League on Tuesday night at the Jean Pierre Complex, Mucurapo.
The feature match tonight jumps off at 8.30 pm, following the night's opening match between three-time winner Courts Horizon and newcomer Quarters United in the Women's Division from 6.30 pm.
In preparation for its contest with Caledonia, a team sporting the talented of centres Miguel Williams and Shawn Lawrence, forwards Wesley Vincent, former national youth player Kerry McMillan, Christopher Lares and guards Steve Williams, Dwayne Moses and Jeffrey Bourne, Shak Attack topped Schoolaz by a narrow four points.
Schoolaz, who defeated Sangre Grande Young Stars 79-55 on Sunday, jumped out to an 18-17 first quarter lead that it pushed to a 32-29 half-time lead.
However, they were outscored 43- 36 in the second half thanks to guard Kurt "Coto" Christain, who scored 11 of his match-high 25 points. He was supported by his brother forward Sheldon Christian, who netted 10.
For Schoolaz, centre Ashton DuMurrell scored 16 points and Randy Greenidge added 14.
Shak Attack remains one of three undefeated teams in the Men's Division from five matches thus far. The others are Petro Jazz which has the same reord as Shak Attack and presently dormant Defence Force. Defence Force teams have not played since January 10 after the Defence Force withdrew the team.
