National Under-17 batsman Jeron Maniram stole the show yesterday, as his brilliant knock led Barrackpore West Secondary to a comfortable 62-run win over Vishnu Boys Hindu College in the PowerGen Secondary Schools Cricket League at the former's school ground.
Right-handed Maniram almost single-handedly took Barrackpore West to a respectable 159 all out in 37 overs, scoring 91. Keron Kanhai pitched in with 24, while national U-15 captain Kirstan Kallicharan picked up 3/22 with his leg spin. Bryan Boodram, who was Maniram's teammate on the national U-17 team last year, bagged 3/20.
Maniram also made an impact with his off spin, taking 3/19 as Vishnu Boys was skittled out for 97 in 34.2 overs. Kallicharan and Shakeem Prince showed some resilience, scoring 25 and 18 respectively, but it was not enough, as Barrackpore won its second match in as many matches.
At Honeymoon Park, defending champions Hillview College came away with a narrow two-wicket win over El Dorado East. Bowling first, Hillview limited El Do to 149 all out in 45 overs. Amrish Rampersad was the chief destroyer, taking 4/35, while Shaquille McDavid top-scored with 34 for El Do. In reply, Hillview held its nerve to escape with the win, getting to the target with four overs to spare. Camillo Carimbocas was the top batsman, scoring 34.
