Swimmer Shanntol Ince will depart T&T today for a one-week training stint at the Michael Johnson Performance Centre located in McKinney, Texas. Ince's visit is supported by bptt under the Bptt/MJP/TTOC partnership.
The 18-year-old para-athlete won four gold medals at the Third Youth Para Pan American Games held last year in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Ince won gold medals in 400 metres freestyle, 100m backstroke, 100m butterfly and 100m freestyle. She also represented T&T at the 2012 Paralympic Games in London. The Franz-Huggins-coached swimmer is preparing for the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
The talented teenager follows in the footsteps of Jehue Gordon and Richard Thompson who both benefitted from their training experience at the world famous Michael Johnson Performance Centre.
Ince returns home on March 4.
TTOC president Brian Lewis expressed thanks to Franz Huggins for his support and encouragement.
"The support of Franz is important if Shanntol is to benefit from the opportunity training at the MJP Centre can provide. Franz has the best interest of his athlete as a priority and has liaised closely with the Centre to ensure that Shanntol's training programme and objectives are factored in during her stay at MJP."
As part of the bptt partnership agreement with the TTOC four elite level athletes deemed podium ready are afforded the opportunity annually to train at the MJP Centre subject to the agreement of their coaches.
"The bptt Michael Johnson Performance Centre opportunity is an important element of our Elite and High Performance Programme. I am confident that Shanntol will enjoy and benefit from the experience."
