All-round performances from Brandon Ali and Justin Joseph yesterday guided Carapichaima East Secondary into the quarterfinals of the PowerGen Secondary Schools Intercol T20 cricket competition, defeating ASJA Boys by 42 runs.
Brandon Ali struck 31 and grabbed 2/15, while Joseph made 23 and took 2/17. Brandon Ali's top score propelled Carapichaima to 152/8 batting first. Amir Ali contributed 25, while Akeel Mohammed (2/29) and Enrique Singh (2/27) took two wickets apiece for ASJA.
In reply, ASJA was dismissed for 110. Dejourn Charles supported Brandon Ali and Joseph, snatching 2/26 in 3.3 overs.
Also advancing to the quarterfinals were Barrackpore West, Presentation College (Chaguanas), Princes Town West and Fatima. The last second round match will take place today at 11 am between Naparima and defending champions El Dorado East at Gilbert Park. Premier division 50-over league champions Vishnu Boys received a first and second round bye.
