National gymnasts Marisa Dick and William Albert both earned podium finishes at the Commonwealth Gymnastics Invitational over the weekend in Perth, Scotland.
Albert, 23, based at the University of Iowa, won gold in the rings (13.900), while Dick, who is based in Canada, picked up four medals. Dick won gold in the uneven bars (13.200), silver on balance beam (13.300), bronze on vault (14.050) and bronze in the all-around competition (72.950).
The Invitational served as a test event for the 2014 Commonwealth Games, and preparation for the gymnasts as they rack up valuable competition time ahead of the Games and vie for team selection. Among the participating countries were Scotland, Singapore, Wales, Northern Ireland, India, Cyprus, Malaysia and Bermuda.
Before Dick attends the Commonwealth Games, she will first compete at the Canada Nationals next month, as the top gymnast in the province of Alberta, Canada.
Another national gymnast Khazia Hislop will also be in action next month. Hislop, who trains at the Brestyan's American Gymnastics Club in Massachusetts, will compete at the US Nationals. Hislop, Dick and Albert will all participate at the T&T National Championships from June 6-8.
