Currently on loan with Millwall, Carlos Edwards believes that the club can stay up in the English Championship Division.
And once they do, the ex-Sunderland man says he will not mind staying at the club even after his loan deal comes to an end.
Millwall are in 20th spot with 45 points, two places higher than the closest relegation rivals Birmingham City which has 43 points.
"A lot of people ruled us out a few weeks ago and now we have got our heads above water, so we have proved people wrong. But with a situation where so many sides can drop out of the Championship, we need to do what we need to do to make sure we are safe. It is in our hands so we do not have to rely on any other teams," said Edwards, who has started in the five games which Millwall have gone unbeaten.
And the Millwall camp has indeed had some exciting moments during the past few matches, as Edwards explained.
"Some players are a bag of nerves. The first thing they do is run into the changing room and check the scores on their phone! Checking the table to see where we are and who has scored, things like that. But regardless of the situation my team are in, I always check the results and the overall situation of the League.
Once, Millwall stays up, Edwards sees himself remaining at the club, adding: "I don't know if the gaffer has plans for me to stay on, but I'd like to."
Molino earns"Player of the week" award
National midfielder Kevin Molino was named United States Soccer League "Player of the week" following his inspiring performances for Orlando City.
Molino, the 2012 USL PRO most valuable player, netted two goals in a 3-2 win over the FC Dallas reserves last Tuesday, then added a game-winning tally in a 2-1 win over the Oklahoma City Energy FC on Saturday night. Molino continues to be a hit for Orlando and is one of the favourites among the club fans as they look ahead to their debut season in the MLS next year.
"I'm delighted with the award but we have bigger things to think about. Right now I'm focusing on being consistent and helping the club regain all their titles," said Molino. "We have the MLS to prepare for and it's going to be a big step up for the club and I know the supporters are looking to see us do well. I also want to ensure my game is at a high level and that I'm injury free ahead of the Argentina and Iran matches in June. I want to play in those games badly so I'm making sure everything goes well between now and those dates."
CFU prepares forhistoric Women's Cup
The Caribbean Football Union (CFU) will begin hosting of its first ever senior women's tournament from next month.
Winners of the inaugural CFU Women's Caribbean Cup will qualify for both the Concacaf Women's Gold Cup and the FIFA Women's World Cup. CFU general secretary Damien Hughes appeared to be excited over the upcoming campaign with T&T set to host the finals in August.
Twenty national associations will be grouped into four groups of four nations and one group of three. The eight team final round will feature the First Round Group winners, the two best overall second place teams from the four team groups and host T&T.
CFU president Gordon Derrick has been a promoter of the tournament and the Antigua and Barbuda federation will be one of the group hosts. Derrick has used his close links to the US and its federation executive, drafting in the USA's Under-17 women's coach Tricia Taliaferro, to coach Antigua & Barbuda. "We have also had some assistance through the United States Soccer Federation and they have sent down a young lady, a top coach who has come from time to time just to oversee what we are doing to give us some hint and to give us some encouragement and direction as we seal with the team specifically so to be honest I am happy," said Derrick.
Yorke says Giggs couldbe full time boss
Dwight Yorke thinks that former teammate Ryan Giggs has the ingredients to go on and be the full time Manchester United boss.
Yorke gave his feelings following United's 4-0 win over Norwich City a few days ago as the former treble winner took charge at Old Trafford following the sacking of David Moyes. "In my opinion before David Moyes was appointed the manager I would have given Ryan Giggs the job for the simple reason that there was a continuity," said Yorke "People say he hasn't got the experience, but the fact that Sir Alex remains a director, I don't see any reason why you couldn't give Giggs time to develop. "We are looking at a young manager. Someone who is looking to break through. He's 40 years of age. "When it comes to football, he's got experience."
Cato wants back San Jose starting role
Young T&T attacking midfielder Cordell Cato doesn't intend to give up his starting position without a fight for the MLS club San Jose Earthquakes. Cato had been a regular in the San Jose start team until last week after both he and teammate Jean-Baptiste Pierazzi were left out of the trip to Colorado and the changes helped San Jose record their first shut out of the season Cato made an 88th minute appearance in that match.
"It's a disappointment at first," Cato told MLSsoccer.com this week. "Stuff happens like this where stuff wasn't going well and a change is made. But I've just got to be prepared, not worry about where I play–as long as I play and make a difference. That's what's important."
San Jose Earthquakes head coach Mark Watson preferred Atiba Harris to Cato on the right wing against the Rapids.
"There are going to be moments when you have other players, good professionals, that are looking to play as well," Watson told MLSsoccer.com. "There's going to be moments when you're not chosen. The key is just to stay focused and keep working hard, and when you do play, do well. It's as simple as that....He's just got to stay focused and keep working and keep taking his chances when they come."
Cato said, "You maybe don't see it a lot, but as a player, yeah, I talk on the field. Off the field, I'm as quiet as the most quiet person, but I still want to win, just as much as anybody else. I still get mad when we lose. It's the same. It's just not out there for everyone to see," Cato added.
