Na­tion­al atheltes, in­clud­ing Olympic shot put throw­er Cleopa­tra Borel and sprint­er Dar­rel Brown, as well as re­gion­al and in­ter­na­tion­al chal­lengers, will line up to­day and to­mor­row at the an­nu­al Hamp­ton In­ter­na­tion­al Games at the Hase­ly Craw­ford Sta­di­um, Port-of-Spain.Borel, who re­cent­ly eased to gold at the Twi­light Games, is a strong con­tender for an­oth­er top-place fin­ish at this event. Oth­er lo­cal run­ners in­clude Ria Thomas (200m) and Jes­si­ca James (800m). Brown will run in his spe­cialised 100m.

Dozens of events with vary­ing age di­vi­sions, from Un­der-10s to se­nior, will be com­pet­ed. The open­ing cer­e­mo­ny is card­ed to start at 1 pm, to­day, and will be fol­lowed by the Boys Un­der-10 100m event. There will be medal pre­sen­ta­tions througout the com­pe­ti­tion. On day two, ac­tion will re­sume from 2.30 pm, and is ex­pect­ed to con­clude be­fore 7 pm. Some of the ma­jor at­trac­tions are the women and men's 200m in­ter­na­tion­al races, as well as the open 4x400m re­lays.Ath­letes from USA, Ja­maica, Cu­ba, Bar­ba­dos, St Lu­cia, St Vin­cent, Suri­name, Guyana, Montser­rat will be in at­ten­dace. Cu­ba will pro­vide the most for­eign ath­letes, with sev­er­al com­pet­ing in a num­ber of events. Janier Car­raro, Reinier Mena, Ar­i­alis Gan­dul­la and De­boach Odelin will all com­pete in both the 100m and 200m sprints. Ja­maica's Rik­er Hyl­ton and Aki­no Ming will both chal­lenge the 400m, as will Ah­mad Jamil Hub­bard from the USA.
