A total of 141 people were arrested during police exercises in the Southern Division over the weekend.Police recovered a .22 Beretta with live rounds in Pleasentville, while a Smith and Wesson 9mm pistol with 16 live rounds was seized in La Romaine, during raids conducted between 6 am Thursday and 6 am Saturday.
Police said 19 people were held for narcotics and in connection with robberies and four men ages 22 to 25 were held in La Romaine and Pleasantville for arms and ammunition. In addition, 36 illegal immigrants (three Columbian, 32 from the Dominican Republic and one Guyanese) were detained; 14 people were arrested and charged for driving under the influence and 50 were arrested on warrants.
The police also executed 447 stop and searches and issued 97 traffic tickets in Moruga, Princes Town, Ste Madeleine, Cocoyea, Pleasantville, Mon Repos, Marabella, Gasparillo, Claxton Bay, San Fernando, La Romaine and surrounding areas.
The exercises were supervised by Senior Supt Cecil Santana, Supt Zamsheed Mohammed, ASP Gaffar and CID officers. Insp Don Gajadhar of the Southern Division Task Force, Sgt Vijay Ramdhanie and officers from the Court and Process Division and Fraud Squad were also part of the exercises.
