A hundred from left-handed vice-captain Amir Jangoo yesterday was not enough for the national Under-19 cricket team to earn an outright win against Barbados in round two of the West Indies Cricket Board Regional U-19 tournament in Guyana.
After Jangoo's knock of 101 which led T&T to 239/9 declared in the second innings, Barbados required 254 to win. T&T did not have enough time to dismiss the Bajans as they closed on 103/4 to end the match in a draw. Akil Greenidge (41) and Joshua Drakes (37) ensured safety for Barbados, while Samuel Roopnarine was again the top bowler for T&T taking 2/43. Anderson Phillip (1/4) and Tevon Jadoo (1/13) took one wicket apiece. Roopnarine grabbed 4/64 in the first innings.
Earlier, T&T resumed on 77/1 in their second innings with Jangoo on 44 and Brian Christmas on 31. Jangoo's 101 came off 210 balls and included nine fours. Christmas also showed top form hitting 66. Chad Williams was again a handful for T&T, taking 4/77. In the first innings Williams took 7/61.
In other matches hosts Guyana got past Windward Islands by four wickets and Leeward Islands defeated Jamaica by two wickets. T&T currently lies at the bottom of the standings with 9.6 points after two rounds. The third and final round will bowl off tomorrow.
