TTYP set to rock and rule with concerts

The T&T Youth Phil­har­mon­ic (TTYP) will host Clas­sics Rule! Movies Rock! on Au­gust 23 and 24, at Queen's Hall, St Ann's, at 7.30 pm and 5.30 pm, re­spec­tive­ly.

The con­certs will be the cul­mi­na­tion of St Au­gus­tine Cham­ber Or­ches­tra Saco/TTYP's tenth an­nu­al three-week mu­sic work­shop where over 200 string, wind, brass and per­cus­sion stu­dents, ages four to 24, for the first time were taught for 90 con­tact hours by prin­ci­pals of TTYP, su­per­vised by Heemath Ja­hoor and Jhon­ny Cu­bides of Fes­no­jiv pro­gramme in Venezuela, and mu­sic di­rec­tor, Ken­neth Listhrop.

The first part of Clas­sics Rule! will fea­ture, by pop­u­lar stu­dent de­mand, TTYP per­form­ing the Big Five Sym­pho­ny No 5 in E mi­nor, Op 64, by fa­mous Russ­ian com­pos­er of the Ro­man­tic era Py­otr Il­lyich Tchaikovsky (1840 � 1893). The Sym­pho­ny was last per­formed for the first time in T&T in 2010, by TTYP. Listhrop will again lead the or­ches­tra.

The sec­ond part, Movies Rock!, promis­es to be equal­ly en­ter­tain­ing with some of the world fa­mous movie and TV themes in­clud­ing The Chron­i­cles of Nar­nia, Game of Thrones, Pi­rates of the Caribbean, King Arthur, the Mag­nif­i­cent Sev­en, and Pink Pan­ther.

The grand fi­nale will fea­ture the crowd favourite Shaft by Isaac Hayes, which was well re­ceived by the au­di­ence at TTYP's 2013 Mo­town, Su­per 70's For­ev­er con­cert.

As­sis­tant mu­sic di­rec­tor Tra­cell Fred­er­ick will con­duct TTYP's Ju­nior/In­ter­me­di­ate Or­ches­tras and Listhrop's TTYP's Ad­vanced Or­ches­tra.

Saco/TTYP's school and com­mu­ni­ty pro­grammes con­tin­ue to em­brace stu­dents from the Ari­ma West Gov­ern­ment Pri­ma­ry School, the Uni­ver­si­ty School, St Au­gus­tine, St George's Col­lege, Barataria and the Bish­op Anstey High School East/Trin­i­ty Col­lege East, Trinci­ty.

Ad­di­tion­al­ly, Saco/TTYP con­tin­ues to recog­nise and ap­plaud the kind gen­eros­i­ty of the cor­po­rate com­mu­ni­ty, name­ly Na­tion­al Gas Com­pa­ny of T&T and At­lantic for its on­go­ing sup­port of the an­nu­al mu­sic work­shop.

Saco/TTYP pre­mier mu­sic ed­u­ca­tion pro­gramme is re­put­ed to be the largest of its kind in the Caribbean, and the on­ly youth sym­pho­ny or­ches­tra in T&T.

This week, Listhrop said: "We are equal­ly proud of our ju­nior and in­ter­me­di­ate or­ches­tra, as they en­sure that TTYP has a fu­ture, they are the fu­ture. Saco/TTYP re­mains com­mit­ted to the es­tab­lish­ment of an or­ches­tral tra­di­tion in T&T. Our dream is to le­git­imise our pres­ence through own prop­er­ty and mu­sic."

The or­ches­tra re­hears­es week­ly on Sat­ur­days be­tween 6 pm to 9 pm at the Uni­ver­si­ty School in St Au­gus­tine.
