On behalf of the Board of the British Academy, I would like to address some concerns raised in a letter to the editor from Adele Elliot Gilbert, published in the Sunday Guardian of September 21, 2014.
While it is true that the British Academy evaluated land that was for sale in 20102011 in Santa Cruz, the land in question was to be part of a wider development that included residential, commercial and school interests. This plan was proposed about four years ago and the British Academy understands that this development has been cancelled by the owner.
However, I would state that at that time the developers held consultations with the Santa Cruz community and all necessary approvals were to be sought. It has always been and will continue to be the policy of the British Academy to comply with all legal requirements in any endeavour that it undertakes. The school is required to meet all Cambridge International Board standards while operating within the laws of the local education system as well.
The British Academy remains committed to providing a student-centred learning environment for those who require a more individualised learning experience.
