National lightweight boxer Prince Lee Isidore will feature in the main event at the Fine Light Fight Factory Boxing Card on October 24 from 7 pm at the Jean Pierre Complex, Wrightson Road, Port-of-Spain, as local professional boxing makes a return to T&T after a one year hiatus.
At the event's press conference yesterday at the National Boxing Gym at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, promoter Bharrath Ramoutar was excited to bring boxing back to the country. Ramoutar said: "It gives me great pleasure to announce the return of pro boxing here in Trinidad and Tobago. As you all are aware there has not been any pro boxing in this country for well over a year. This is a result of some administrative problem or the other. It is hoped that this card will herald a change."
Isidore will battle Barbadian Revlon Lake in the headline event, while T&T's Lorissa Rivas will battle Guyanese Sharon Wade in a semi-main women's bout.
T&T's Joel McRea, who will fight on the night said: "I was inactive for about two years in T&T, I want to thank Ramoutar (Bharrath) for bringing this programme back together and with the guidance of Mr. Potts (Buxo) and others boxing in T&T can get back to where it use to be."
Another boxer Kenneth Bishop, who started off in kickboxing and mixed martial arts, says despite being 40 years old and all the mishaps in T&T boxing, he believes he can still bring a boxing title to T&T.
Buxo Potts, Special Adviser to the T&T Boxing Board of Control believes in the new Minister of Sport Dr. Rupert Griffith. Potts said: "There were a lot of administrative glitches in boxing and in the Ministry of Sport in the past, I do know that Minister Rupert Griffith is a very proactive Minister." Potts added that Griffith can help with the growth and development of boxing.
