The warm and charming operatic soprano Tahirah Osborne has returned to T&T to share Christmas Suite with the public on Saturday, at 7.30 pm at Holy Trinity Cathedral, Abercromby Street, Port-of-Spain. The accompanists are Alan Cooper and Darren Shillingford.
Christmas Suite is her first self-produced concert since earning a Bachelor of Music (First Class Honours) and Master of Arts (Distinction) in Vocal Performance from the Royal Academy of Music in London. The programme seamlessly melds several genres from Classical to Spirituals, Gospel and well-known Christmas songs.
Osborne may be remembered for her poised and gracious voice from the T&T Biennial Music Festivals, in which she received numerous awards, including the Scotia Bank Challenge Trophy for the Most Promising Performer (2008). She has had the privilege of performing at state banquets in honour of the Prince of Wales, the Duchess of Cornwall, the President of Ghana and the President of the Republic of T&T. In 2008 she was part of the T&T's Artist Contingent at Carifesta, Guyana.
Praised for exuding an assured and warm stage presence, Osborne placed first in the Kathleen Ferrier Bursary Competition for Young Singers (2010) in the United Kingdom as a representative of the Royal Academy of Music.
This competition is open to vocal students who have started their second year of study of the Bachelor of Music Degree at the eight major Music Colleges in England, Scotland and Wales. While in London, she regularly offered recitals and was a member of the prestigious Royal Academy of Music Song Circle.
Christmas Suite will also feature the launch of Bravura, an upcoming vocal ensemble. Bravura currently has ten members and boasts several national Music Festival winners amongst its ranks including Garfield Washington, Naette Lee, and Diahann White. Bravura's official pianist is Darren Shillingford who holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music/Music Education from Florida International University. He is one of the pianists of the Marionettes Chorale and the organist and pianist-in-residence at All Saint's Anglican Church, Port of Spain.
