Klassic Ruso, the calypso tent managed by the north zone of Trinbago Unified Calypsonians Organisation (TUCO), is ready to deliver in 2013 after reaping the rewards of the Ministry of the Arts and Multiculturalism's pilot "Calypso Tents Enhancement Project 2012."
The initiative by the Ministry led to the resurgence in the general interest of one of our main indigenous art-forms. The overall presentation of Klassic Ruso Calypso Tent was enhanced by the inclusion of state-of-the-art audio equipment, an upgraded stage design (with a runway off the stage close to the audience), improved theatrical lighting and creative dcor.
The increase in audience attendance, according to reports, was a visible reward for the innovative initiative.
What was also noticeable was the professional approach to their duties by cast members, which was part one of the overall objectives that the Ministry hoped to derive from the Calypso Enhancement Project 2012.
To quote Peter Ray Blood, the first-ever "all-inclusive calypso tent... A Klassic act" (Trinidad Guardian, February 2, 2012).
Klassic Ruso Experience 2013–the Home of Klassic Kaiso–will be formally opened on January 11 at City Hall in Port-of-Spain, starting at 8 pm.
Tent headliners include Allrounder (Go Downstairs), Crazy (Dr Protester), Contender (Twenty How Much), Lady Wonder (Caribbean Paradigm), Black Prince (Only Ah Food) and Versatile (How It Hang It Swing).
