The T&T Secondary Schools cricket team created history yesterday by winning the 2nd International Schools Cricket Premier League T20 title in Locknow, India yesterday. The T&T boys, who left home a week ago, played unbeaten at the tournament and yesterday grabbed the title with a 53-run win over City Montessori School, Lucknow at the CMS ground.
Batting first, the T&T boys made 195 all out in exactly 20 overs with Joshua Ramdoo topscoring with a hard hitting 58. Lending good support was Shakeel McDavid with 24 and the inform national under-19 player Jeremy Solozano 23. When the home team took to the crease, they were always up against it, chasing 196 at 9.85 runs per over.
Despite support from a very noisy crowd at the CMS ground, the hosts batting failed to live up to the lofty asking rate and in the end they were restricted to 142/8 in their 20 overs.
North Zone's Camillio Carimbocas grabbed 3/17, while Solozano returned with the ball to take 2/27. Secondary Schools Cricket Council (SSCC) official Ravi Ramnanan who accompanied the team to India said he was thrilled with the guys performance. "We are thrilled with the performance of this young team we brought up here. They were playing in foreign conditions and handled the adjustment well and they have made their country proud.
"Winning this title meant a lot to the players and they will all be taking all the positives out of this trip to aid in the furtherance of their cricketing careers." The president of the Secondary Schools Cricket Council, Sonnylal Sookoo also accompanied the team to India.
