Cale­do­nia be­came the first team to qual­i­fy for the elite eight (quar­ter­fi­nal) stage in the Hoop of Life Com­mu­ni­ty Bas­ket­ball League fol­low­ing a one-sided 104-39 vic­to­ry over Pa­lo Seco, at the Par­adise Heights Bas­ket­ball Court, Mor­vant, on Sun­day.

Key­on Joseph mas­ter­mind­ed the at­tack for Cale­do­nia with a match-high 27 points. Steve Williams with 20 points and Wes­ley Vin­cent with 17 points, were al­so in the dou­ble fig­ures as Cale­do­nia en­sured its en­vi­able plac­ing. Jody Roberts, with a mea­gre sev­en points, was the high­est scor­er for Pa­lo Seco.

Mean­while, at the La Brea Bas­ket­ball Court, vis­it­ing Ari­ma out­played the home team to come away with an 88-60 vic­to­ry. Nicholas Me­dia top scored for the away team with 21 points while broth­er Justin Med­i­na fol­lowed up with 19 points.

In a keen­ly con­test­ed match, the Ari­ma boys took an ear­ly 11-point lead to fin­ish the first quar­ter 21-10. La Brea's best ef­fort came in the sec­ond quar­ter as it matched Ari­ma on 21 points, but the side from the east was too much for the south­ern­ers, as its piled a fur­ther 46 points to its op­po­nents' 29 by the end of the fourth quar­ter. An­dre Phillip top scored for La Brea with 11 points.

Fi­nal­ly, La Ro­maine con­tin­ued its six-match win­ning streak when it hum­bled Barataria 114-79.For­ward Der­rick Box­hill im­pressed the home crowd from La Ro­maine, when he end­ed with a whop­ping 45 points. His team­mate Del­roy Agard sup­port­ed with 21, fol­lowed by Adri­an Joseph's tal­ly of 20. For Barataria, Collin Flem­ming and Kevin Nunes fin­ished on 22 and 11 points, re­spec­tive­ly. Ter­rence Jones scored 10.
