Caledonia became the first team to qualify for the elite eight (quarterfinal) stage in the Hoop of Life Community Basketball League following a one-sided 104-39 victory over Palo Seco, at the Paradise Heights Basketball Court, Morvant, on Sunday.
Keyon Joseph masterminded the attack for Caledonia with a match-high 27 points. Steve Williams with 20 points and Wesley Vincent with 17 points, were also in the double figures as Caledonia ensured its enviable placing. Jody Roberts, with a meagre seven points, was the highest scorer for Palo Seco.
Meanwhile, at the La Brea Basketball Court, visiting Arima outplayed the home team to come away with an 88-60 victory. Nicholas Media top scored for the away team with 21 points while brother Justin Medina followed up with 19 points.
In a keenly contested match, the Arima boys took an early 11-point lead to finish the first quarter 21-10. La Brea's best effort came in the second quarter as it matched Arima on 21 points, but the side from the east was too much for the southerners, as its piled a further 46 points to its opponents' 29 by the end of the fourth quarter. Andre Phillip top scored for La Brea with 11 points.
Finally, La Romaine continued its six-match winning streak when it humbled Barataria 114-79.Forward Derrick Boxhill impressed the home crowd from La Romaine, when he ended with a whopping 45 points. His teammate Delroy Agard supported with 21, followed by Adrian Joseph's tally of 20. For Barataria, Collin Flemming and Kevin Nunes finished on 22 and 11 points, respectively. Terrence Jones scored 10.
