While many were prim­ing up for J'Ou­vert cel­e­bra­tions yes­ter­day morn­ing, po­lice caught two men strip­ping a stolen pick­up truck in Ca­paro on Sun­day night. The po­lice al­so ar­rest­ed five oth­er men af­ter a high-speed car chase in con­nec­tion with the in­ci­dent.

The sev­en men, from Chase Vil­lage, Ca­paro, St He­le­na, San­ta Cruz and Mar­aval, are as­sist­ing po­lice with in­quiries. Ac­cord­ing to a re­port, around 9 pm WPC Mehar­ris, PC Dook­ie and PC Ram­lal of the Bras­so Po­lice Sta­tion were on mo­bile pa­trol when they re­ceived in­for­ma­tion that a stolen Nis­san Navara was be­ing stripped at a garage at Chick­land Road.

When the po­lice got there they caught the men in the act. They told the po­lice they had been giv­en a job and the men who hired them were on their way there. The po­lice wait­ed and a short while lat­er a B-13 pulled up, but when the oc­cu­pants saw the po­lice they sped off.The po­lice gave chase and ar­rest­ed the five oc­cu­pants a short dis­tance away.

They im­pound­ed the van and con­tact­ed their col­leagues at the Stolen Ve­hi­cles Unit to help them find the own­er of the van.In­ves­ti­ga­tions are con­tin­u­ing.
