Action will resume today in the Digicel TT Pro League with a round two, match day six clash between two teams out of contention for championship honours when Police FC and St Ann's Rangers convene at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva, from 6 pm.At the end of the fixture, only one outstanding match will remain, Central FC's clash with North East Stars, of which a date and venue are yet to be announced.
Meanwhile, today's challengers, Police and St Ann's Rangers, at sixth and seventh, respectively, will be seeking to make up ground after both clubs suffered miserable defeats in league action over the weekend. On Friday, Police was easily outdone 5-2 at the hands of reigning champion and title hopeful W Connection. Even after taking an early lead through Jameel Perry, Police conceded four first-half goals, before its heavy defeat was affirmed after midfielder Joevin Jones completed a hat-trick with a world class free kick 15 minutes before full time.
In its last match, Rangers faced a bigger challenge to its opponent on the day, second-positioned Neal & Massy Caledonia AIA, but in the end the latter took a 4-2 win. Rangers trailed twice and equalised as many times, through Keifer Edwards and Devon Modeste, respectively, and looked on its way to securing a positive result, before Caledonia stormed the last 10 minutes via a pair of goals from national midfielder Keyon Edwards (second goal of the match) and Sheldon Holder.
The two teams last met in league action back in December at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella, with each taking a share of the spoils after a 2-2 draw. Midfielders Errol Charles and Anton Hutchinson scored Police's two goals, while Devon Modeste bagged a brace, the second of which secured a point in the final minute of action. No league matches will be competed this Friday as Caledonia AIA and league debutants Central FC meet in the TTFF FA Trophy competition. Matches are expected to continue on Saturday. The league will make an announcement by Thursday.
